Gas storage and LNG

Import, storage and regasification of liquefied natural gas, LNG, is an increasing import route to many gas markets.

Furthermore, underground gas storage is of key importance to gas supply under normal operational circumstances, and in case of a gas supply emergency.

Liquefied natural gas takes up about 1/600th the volume of natural gas in its gaseous state which makes it possible to transport it from remote locations to markets worldwide

Ramboll Oil and Gas has done feasibility, conceptual and detailed design work on gas injection and withdrawal facilities.

LNG

Regasification of stored LNG is of interest for peak shaving gas supply demands as well as fuel supply for peak shaving facilities for district heating and power generation.

Ramboll Oil & Gas offers project management and engineering services during all project phases including:

  • Feasibility studies (incl. marked analysis)
  • Concept FEED and FEED studies
  • Basic and detailed design
  • Coordination with authorities
  • Procurement support
  • Engineering and construction management
  • Supervision and commissioning

The above also includes budget and schedule definition and follow-up.

Being an independent consultancy, Ramboll often acts independently of client's organisation as well as client's representative.

Securing gas supply

Securing a reliable gas supply is of prime concern to energy companies and consumers. Storage facilities – which for example could be placed underground in naturally occurring cavities such as salt caverns – play an important part in preventing both seasonal demand fluctuations in gas supply and unexpected supply disruptions.

Our gas storage services

Ramboll offers engineering services during all project phases:

  • Coordination with authorities
  • Procurement
  • Conceptual and basic engineering
  • Detailed engineering
  • Supervision and commissioning
  • Engineering and construction management

As an example, one of our customers was able to significantly increase capacity at their facility while still maintaining a competitive price – based on Ramboll’s economic study on commercial gas storage.
