Pipeline design

Ramboll has been working on some of the world’s most challenging HP/HT subsea pipeline projects.

We have significant experience and can provide independent engineering assistance from early concept phase through FEED studies and detailed engineering to installation and commissioning of the subsea pipeline systems.
Ramboll has designed about 80 percent of all pipelines in the Danish North Sea

Ramboll has been working with subsea pipelines for more than 30 years and have highly specialised and dedicated team of engineers.

We provide specialist engineering services for pipelines and subsea systems. Our services cover both interfield pipeline systems between templates and production facilities as well as oil and gas transmission pipelines.

Furthermore, we cover all aspects of pipeline engineering including cost estimating, concept and feasibility studies, detailed and follow-on engineering, offshore supervision and engineering support, construction management including assistance with procurement.

Pipelines, flowlines and transmission systems

Ramboll has completed several complex, HP/HT (high pressure high temperature), projects located on the Norwegian continental shelf. The detailed design challenges being the operational condition, corrosive medium, very rough seabed terrain, diverless tie-in operations, design of inline pipeline components (in-line tees, hot tap tees), riser bases, PLEM/PLET’s and GRP protection covers.

As part of the subsea pipeline projects rock dumping has been required for several purposes, e.g. free span correction, dropped object protection, foundation for pipeline assemblies, locking of axial movements for controlling lateral buckling.

Ramboll has also worked with transmission pipelines including planning, project management, detailed design, procurement of line pipes, coating, anodes, valves etc.

In Ramboll we can provide all services required for pipeline projects including assistance required for obtaining authority approvals, environmental impact assessment, risk and safety engineering, survey and geotechnical engineering, flow assurance, assessment of in-service pipelines, life time extension studies.

Ramboll’s innovative design analysis program

To control the challenges posed by the thermal buckling of HP/HT pipelines – typically a problem when soil conditions are poor –Ramboll uses its in-house design analysis software GOLIAT to verify pipeline expansion and free spans. GOLIAT significantly helps to minimise required seabed rectification and construction costs.
