GIS is an IT tool that provides overview of data with a geographic relation. By combining data and by connecting data to a map, it is possible to identify and analyze different data relations.

Furthermore combining data on a map makes it easier to communicate complex data relations in a visual way that everybody understands. This is very useful when using GIS in an environmental context where different datasets are analyzed and combined.

Environmental GIS within Ramboll projects

Since site assessment and route optimisation are an integral part of most of the projects which Ramboll undertakes both onshore and offshore, Ramboll has substantive experience in GIS analysis, map production and data management as well as ownership of a large amount of data. This includes projects within the Nord Stream project in Baltic Sea, the Zadco Artificial Island project in Abu Dhabi, the Århus Harbour raw material project and the Anholt Wind Farm project in Denmark.

Environmental GIS in the oil and gas industry

Ramboll’s ability to handle great amounts of GIS data is evident from the ongoing Nord Stream Pipeline Project in the Baltic Sea. This includes data management, map production and GIS analysis regarding all aspects of the Nord Stream pipeline project.

In total over 3000 maps and figures, covering 9 different countries, have been produced. Besides the EIA/Espoo reports and map atlas, all GIS data is made available on an online GIS Map Portal. The Map Portal is accessible with username and password.
