Involvement in many phases
"Due to my function in the organisation, my work days differ a lot. Often I am involved in tender work where I am responsible for CTR catalogues defining scope of work, man-hour estimates and cost for the work asked for in the tender. This requires a lot of coordination with the different disciplines. In the tenders I also establish the schedule with activities to perform the work and conduct manpower projection plans," Kristin says.
"During execution of projects my responsibility is scheduling, follow-up of man-hour consumption during the project, progress and cost follow-up as well as reporting. Reporting is both internally and to clients through weekly and monthly reporting. Another important part of my job is to establish overall execution schedules including all phases from the initial study or FEED until the installation is ready for first oil offshore," Kristin explains.
From telecommunications to oil and gas
Kristin has a background as Master of Science Electronics. Before her employment with Ramboll, Kristin worked as development engineer within telecommunications. The shift to work in the oil and gas industry has been a positive challenge to her.
"The projects in the oil and gas industry pose a lot of challenges to your project management skills on both a short-term and long-term basis. The initial planning of the project is essential, and it is important to have a good understanding of the interactions between the disciplines to be able to schedule and follow-up on the project in an orderly manner. The multidisciplinary set-up is an interesting element to the job as well, and I work with engineers from all disciplines when scheduling the different phases of the projects," she says.
